It is true more for reality television shows in America but is slowly catching in the fastest growing television Industry i.e. India. The primary aim of these types of television series is to show painful, humiliating, embarrassing and a bit of joyous situations. After looking at all this, either people are entertained or are shocked. The bottom line is that they connect to it and talk about it with their tea or at dinner after the show. This is the major reason for great success of these types of programs. People do talk about these shows even after the show is over.
The perfect word for this type of behavior of getting high with the problems and failings of others is a German word Schadenfreude. However, are we Indians like that? With new reality show based on Fear factor with prize money of 10 lakh as episode winner and 1 Crore as the prize money for the final winner, Indians are surely going to get the real action soon.
